Die Rahmenhandlung is an unconventional literature festival in Zurich and Bad Ragaz, which emerged during the pandemic and is now considered one of Switzerland's special literary experiences. The reading trail leads the audience in early summer in Zurich and in autumn in Bad Ragaz to carefully selected, unusual places where literature can be experienced up close.
For several days, well-known authors read simultaneously at different locations, while the audience switches from one reading to the next in small groups every 20 minutes. In Zurich, the trail goes through a private residence, while in Bad Ragaz it spans the entire village – from the church to workshops to special cultural spaces. Pop-up exhibitions and concerts complement the program.
The framework connects literature, art, and music, creating an open atmosphere where encounters, exchanges, and new perspectives arise. The festival is characterized by its closeness to the performers and by unique settings that make literature accessible in a playful and impressive way.
