The Basler Eule is a writing competition for children and young people from the Basel region and is one of the most important support programs for literary talent. Since 1993, stories, poems, and other texts have been submitted annually, which are evaluated by the young people themselves. The winners are honored at a public award ceremony, where the accolades are also presented by young people.
The competition invites classes and individual students to propose their own themes, utilize writing prompts, and engage creatively with language. The Basler Eule shows young people that their texts are taken seriously and creates a safe environment where writing, reading, and storytelling are at the center.
In addition to the competition, the association continuously develops its offerings. A digital literary magazine provides young authors with the opportunity to publish their texts. This is complemented by workshops, writing studios, and offerings in schools that support children and young people in writing and open up new approaches to literature. We support the Basler Eule as a sponsor because here reading, writing, and creativity are promoted in a way that empowers young people and gives them a voice. The Basler Eule contributes to the growth of a vibrant and diverse literary landscape in Basel, which begins in childhood and adolescence.
